In addition to the live events on offer, 34 online wristbands will also be awarded this year, including 20 for WSOP.com players in Nevada and New Jersey, plus seven each for the Michigan and Pennsylvania sites. This means that at least 129 bracelets will be won in 2023, with the WSOP Europe and an autonomous WSOP on line likely to be announced at a later date.
“With the momentum generated by the WSOP debut on the Las Vegas Strip last year, we expect a record WSOP and World Championship in Paris and Horseshoe Las Vegas in 2023,” said Ty Stewart, SVP & Executive Director of WSOP. “If main eventing is on your bucket list, this is the year to get to Vegas.”
As Stewart said, there will be an organizational emphasis on making this year’s main event the biggest in the series’ history. 2023 WSOP The $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em world championship is scheduled for July 3-17, with several moves made by the organizers, dubbed “Main Event Mania,” aiming to break the attendance record to the polls of 8,773 entrants set in 2006. The 2022 rush came incredibly close to breaking the record, drawing 8,663 entries to become the second-largest field ever.
To kick things off, this year’s main event will see at least 600 seats awarded to players by GGPoker. A further 112 guaranteed places will be allocated WSOP.com from June 25th to July 8th in view of the big ball, with 10 places guaranteed per day.
There will also be a new “Global Qualifying Weekend” taking place from May 20-21 that will see select live cardrooms from around the world offer guaranteed seat satellites to send local players to the 2023 Main Event. Participants will offer a $140 buy-in step tournament and a $1,175 mega satellite, awarding a seat to the big dance and a stipend for travel. More information, including the list of participating venues, is available at www.wsop.com/mainevent.
Should the main event field set a record this year, a drawing will be held with all eligible entrants that will award one lucky player a non-transferable buy-in to the main event for the next 30 years. This “main event for life” draw will take place on Saturday 8 July if the record is broken.
